Speaker 2:

I don't think we should do that. This is not good.

Speaker 1:

I so wish we could do a live vote right now, because I so badly want to see Paul sit in this seat and be John. Okay, if Paul, let's give an option.

Speaker 3:

If you would like I'll just be Brandon, and then we collectively go back to our spots. You continue to be me. Paul is then Paul. Yeah, I'm going to be Paul.

Speaker 1:

Paul is best at Paul. Yeah, I want to see your impression of me.

Speaker 3:

I'm going to be, you yes, please, and let's even act like we took the episode from the very top.

Speaker 2:

Same recording. Here we go and we are back on in three, two, one.

Speaker 3:

Hello and welcome to Mission Media Group. A show about a lot of things, everything, anything and everything in between Loud noises. So before we jump into that, I actually want to dive into a hot tub. What's so fun? Dive into a?

Speaker 2:

hot tub. What's so funny? Dive into a hot tub, that's hot, that's really good. You got to keep going.

Speaker 1:

You got to keep going, no, but now here, you got to do the laugh, though you got to oh well, nothing's funny yet. Oh well, fair enough, John.

Speaker 3:

All right.

Speaker 1:

Reign it in. I'm going to interrupt you. You have a million vitamin waters over there.

Speaker 2:

I just want to let you know you drink them all the time you better not drink that you're serious about your vitamin.

Speaker 3:

It's like that's where I draw the line hey, john, yeah, guys, let's stay on track all right, I have, we have a great show to get in today. So today I have this idea that has still like coffee drippings in it. I would be careful about that. I just uh john, my mustache.

Speaker 1:

I I just sorry, brandon, I wasn't listening crack john, no, I wasn't listening.

Speaker 2:

Um, here's the thing, my mustache.

Speaker 1:

Oh, my goodness, paul, let me tell you john tell me about your must. My mustache makes chipmunks fall out of trees.

Speaker 2:

No one's going to listen to this podcast. They have tuned this thing off five minutes ago, john.

Speaker 1:

Paul.

Speaker 4:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

Listen. Yes, everybody loves me.

Speaker 4:

John, okay, everybody comes to watch for me. Stop it, stop it, okay. All right folks, all right folks.

Speaker 1:

Everybody loves me, john okay everybody comes to watch for me. Stop it, stop it, okay, alright folks, alright folks, and let us, get us back to our original yeah, I think so.

Speaker 4:

I think we've done this enough.

Speaker 1:

I think it was fun it was fun, but now we gotta return my throat really hurts from doing Brandon's let's rate each other's impressions. I thought I thought everybody did a really nice job. Honestly, Paul, I thought you had some really nice intonations there Only at the beginning. At the beginning. I thought it was fantastic. I thought that was great. John, your impression of Paul was really really good. You nailed the. Here's the deal.

Speaker 2:

Do I say here's the deal.

Speaker 1:

And you do the what? That was great, that was fantastic.

Speaker 3:

I spammed the what.

Speaker 2:

When you say what to me and I don't make sense. You're like what I never knew. I did that, go for it.

Speaker 1:

And then your impression, John, of me. I thought was fantastic. Thank you, you did a really good job.

Speaker 3:

Paul, I thought your stuff was great. Brandon, you sucked.

Speaker 4:

Thank you, yeah, that sounds about right so yeah, just don't do that again.

Speaker 3:

Paul, again, paul, you did amazing though honestly, I'm really proud of you, bro.

Speaker 1:

Okay, now that we've established that, Are you saying that because maybe it hit a little too close to home? Maybe it just kind of revealed a couple? Things, brandon, I don't want to talk Fair enough, all right, so.

Speaker 3:

Psych, would you like to hold my hand?

Speaker 1:

Always Holy matrimony.

Speaker 2:

No, I think you did great.

Speaker 1:

I think you did really good at um personally, but this actually shows people that this is not easy to do no lord, it's not easy to do well, and I think we all have our individual strengths, and that's where we know we need to stay in ourselves so we should never do this again so.

Speaker 1:

So you guys got a first hand, uh, what you know like alternate reality, what could happen. I'm sorry, I'm laughing because John was just staring into the camera, just like I was doing earlier, unintentionally, unintentionally, right, okay, so on to our actual topic.

Speaker 2:

Do we have an actual topic?

Speaker 1:

We do we actually have something to impart to the people, paul, so I think it was really Go ahead, brandon, okay, I'm sorry, so here's, you know, paul, first of all, let me ask you, yes, are you familiar with what a thirst trap is?

Speaker 2:

Yes, I know what the term thirst trap means Okay, what is Even at almost 60,.

Speaker 1:

I didn't I know what it means okay and what into you.

Speaker 2:

What is a thirst trap? I don't even know how to describe it, except anyone can be a thirst trap to someone else.

Speaker 1:

Okay, all right, so john, you obviously you can.

Speaker 2:

You're a younger, but you can describe it better than I can. What's your?

Speaker 3:

well as a retired thirst trapper, I actually know this very well. If any of you guys know me, you know that I used to have a TikTok and almost every TikTok was actually a thirst trap. Okay, this was four years ago.

Speaker 1:

We'll preface. We'll be playing it on the screen right now. No, we won't. We're going to show one of your TikToks.

Speaker 3:

No. Okay, not a good idea.

Speaker 4:

No.

Speaker 3:

Bad idea. However, thirst trapping is where you basically it's similar to the term catfishing, where you try to look better than you actually do and you try to pose as someone that you're kind of not, which you're trying to thirst trap the other. You're trying to trap someone into thinking. You're trying to trap someone into thirsting for you, Correct?

Speaker 2:

Does that make sense? Thirsting, that's a better way of saying it.

Speaker 3:

Yes, that's what I couldn't think of, right and so typically this is done through a way on camera on your phone, on a video, People get a certain angle or a filter or they wear skimpy clothes. Typically this is more of a sexually related thing. People like to do it through that way and it's not right.

Speaker 4:

Obviously we're saying this is wrong.

Speaker 3:

No bueno, this is no bueno, but I'm explaining that it is typically a sexual thirst trap way all right, okay, so well, there you go.

Speaker 1:

So for anybody it's tempting it's basically you're just tempting other people yeah, right with something that's not true, which is what the devil does well, and I don't even think it's necessarily something that's not even true. I mean, somebody could be in really really great shape.

Speaker 4:

That's true too.

Speaker 1:

That's true too, and look really good and they're using their. How good they look on the outside their attributes assets, right? Yes, sorry, they're using their abilities to try to make somebody lust after them, correct?

Speaker 3:

Or want them, or want them Sure, of course.

Speaker 1:

So I ran into something interesting Was it a bus, no, no, much to your chagrin. No, I did not.

Speaker 2:

Okay, so what did?

Speaker 4:

you run into.

Speaker 1:

I ran into a Christian thirst trap. What? What does that mean?

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

So I have to show this video.

Speaker 2:

A.

Speaker 1:

Christian thirst trap.

Speaker 4:

A.

Speaker 1:

Christian thirst trap and I don't really know how to interpret it and how to feel about it. It's just very I want to get your guys' take on it first I don't think I showed you Paul, so we're going to show a reel' take on it first. I don't think I showed you Paul, okay, so we're going to show a reel that I found on Instagram. We're not going to show the username, anything like that, we're just going to show.

Speaker 4:

And then so.

Speaker 1:

John, you can blur out the name or just crop it out, however you want to do it, so I'm going to play for you. All it is is just music and this guy just smiling like super crazy christian thirst trap.

Speaker 1:

A christian thirst trap. So, and here's the caption, it's in quotations I'm just a girl and then, out of quotations, no, you're actually a beautiful daughter of christ. And it's got this guy like, like I, I don't know if it's cringe, I don't know if I don't know how to feel about it, so I want to get you guys take on it. Okay, all right, here we go. So here's just the music, and this is literally it.

Speaker 2:

He smiles through the whole thing.

Speaker 1:

Yes, he doesn't do anything. Yes, he doesn't do anything, and I've seen this labeled as a Christian thirst trap why are they calling it a Christian thirst trap? Because he's clearly trying to at least in my opinion. He's trying to probably show how good looking he thinks he is, but also using the word of god to kind of cover it up, maybe a little bit and like to try to get girls to like him christian girls- right, right, so obviously he was almost sitting there smiling right and.

Speaker 2:

But what's the point in that?

Speaker 1:

well, I agree. I guess that's content nowadays, which that's probably a whole another discussion another podcast, yeah.

Speaker 2:

So how do we? How do we feel? Because I just don't know how.

Speaker 1:

Agree I guess that's content nowadays, which that's probably a whole other discussion, that's a whole other podcast. So how do we feel? Because I just don't know how to interpret that.

Speaker 3:

Sure yeah. So let me hear your take first, Sean.

Speaker 1:

I'm interested in hearing.

Speaker 3:

So, like I said, former thirst trapper.

Speaker 4:

Ex-thirst trapper.

Speaker 3:

Ex-thirst trapper. Thirst trapper saved. So like. Here's what I think about Either one which we'll choose to believe this with the benefit of the doubt. It's whoever you are. I think one. Oh wait, what? No?

Speaker 1:

you've said so many words, yet you haven't said a thing. Okay, hold on, I'm getting to it, okay, okay.

Speaker 3:

One. We will give you, mr TikTok, the benefit of the doubt that this was not a thirst trap. Maybe it was completely innocent.

Speaker 2:

Was it tagged as a thirst trap, though? Well, Was it tagged as a thirst trap though.

Speaker 1:

Well, that's what I've seen in the comments and a lot of people doing review videos on it from worldly perspectives. Okay, okay, that's what they're saying, we'll still give you the benefit of the doubt, sure.

Speaker 3:

However, I have seen this before and I have been that before, and so I think what happens is people who used to be in the world and used to be a thirst trap, Instagram, tiktok influencer person that I think when they became a Christian or maybe started following Jesus more then they wanted to, they still had that in them, because it's a certain thing that people get in their head when they get a lot of likes and attention for how they look right right if they're used to that and they become saved.

Speaker 3:

Typically that's not really something that they see as a sin immediately okay and so they could use christian songs or verses or christian things and still try and look good and still try and thirst trap someone okay in just a more innocent way but, still have that characteristic and mindset in their head because they established it for so long in the world before Does that make sense?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I see what you're saying, so you can be used to being in front of your phone, looking good, getting angles, getting likes, getting attention. You become saved, or you just start following Jesus seriously become a disciple. Then you're like, well, now I have Christian music, I can kind of dance to this you. Then you're like, well, now I have Christian music, I can kind of dance to this and do the same thing.

Speaker 3:

You don't really realize that's harmful and not best. Look, we could get into why it's probably bad in a second. But you don't realize that until you really start to mature in your Christianity.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 3:

So that could be what that was, Okay sure. Or Paul.

Speaker 1:

Or Cliffhanger.

Speaker 2:

Cliffhanger Okay sure, or Paul, or Paul, cliffhanger, cliffhanger. Okay, so what are your thoughts, paul? I don't really have any thoughts, so I guess mine is more of a question. So to speak. So social media. I just want to know what your takes are on social media in general. When it comes to when you're calling yourself a Christian Okay, is it wrong? What do you think about social media If you had it before you're a Christian or you're after whatever? What do you think about that? Do you think?

Speaker 3:

What do you mean?

Speaker 2:

Like for example, you have an Instagram page. I mean you're a Christian example, you have an instagram page. I mean you're you're, you're christian, you have an instagram page. Do you think you have it? And you have other pages as well. I've heard different stories because people say, yeah, you shouldn't be on social media. You know, especially if you kind of work on work at a church or oh there's.

Speaker 1:

They're saying you shouldn't have social media at all.

Speaker 2:

I've heard that I've heard that you should like you should not be on social media. If you have a relationship with God, you should just stay away from that, because that's bad. Social media is bad. What's your take?

Speaker 1:

I'll go first and I'll let you go.

Speaker 1:

But I think, social media obviously there's a lot of negative effects of it, but also I think it could be used for the positive, absolutely To reach people and I think coming effects of it, but also I think it could be used for the positive, absolutely, I mean, you know, to reach people and, and you know, I I think, coming back to this specific whatever this is, whatever video this is, I think it all depends on where the attention is getting pointed to right, right, and and I, at least to me, in the way that I'm interpreting it, it seems like in this video the attention is purely hey, I'm smiling, look how good looking I am, kind of thing, and again, nothing wrong with smiling and whatever.

Speaker 1:

But I think when it comes to the Word of God like, for example, I see John, he does a lot of posts where he'll post Bible verses or something that the Lord's talking to him about, and it'll usually just be like a cool picture of nature or something that he went on a walk with, where the attention is purely based on the Word of God that you're sharing. And I think with this, I think it could be misconstrued a little bit, just because it's so. I mean, in the video that we show. I mean it's just, his face is so close to the camera you don't almost even like focus on what the caption is.

Speaker 1:

Right, because it's just so. Hey, here's my white smiley teeth, and you know whatever so. I don't know, I guess that's more. But you know that was my take on that video. But I guess to your point, you know I think it can absolutely be used in a great way. For sure, it just depends on, I guess, where you're pointing the attention to, I guess would be my point.

Speaker 3:

What do you think? So I think of social media like this so take okay, okay, how about this? Take okay, okay, how about this? We all, we all like ice cream, right, mm-hmm, does everybody?

Speaker 2:

like ice cream.

Speaker 3:

Yes, I do okay, do you eat ice cream? Yes, yes how often no? I don't okay not really okay, lactose intolerant. Sorry, sure you've had ice cream before yes, I have, there are uh, almond uh I do oat, milk, ice.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, there you go.

Speaker 1:

Excellent, let's let's talk about that bruh, uh, chill.

Speaker 3:

So okay, everybody's had ice cream, right?

Speaker 1:

yeah right.

Speaker 3:

So you like ice cream, you eat ice cream, but anyone can have ice cream right right. Ice cream's not wrong. If we got into the health benefits of it, it probably is wrong. We're talking about morally and spiritually, is ice cream wrong.

Speaker 1:

Is it a?

Speaker 2:

sin to eat ice cream? No, it's not. Ice cream itself is not a sin, correct.

Speaker 3:

The ice cream itself is not a sin, and even eating it is not a sin. But, what is a sin is when you turn that into gluttony or when you create an unhealthy habit out of ice cream that leads you to sin, or you turn to ice cream when you're in your down moments and that leads you to sin. Does that make sense?

Speaker 2:

you're taking something, that's okay so in social media terms, use that now. Flip that back into social media terms it's social media terms.

Speaker 3:

basically, what I'm describing is a weight, if social media is a weight to someone where they can't control themselves on social media.

Speaker 2:

Can't stay off of it.

Speaker 3:

Can't stop. They can't stay off of it. They watch the wrong things on it. They completely use it for the wrong purposes, Don't use the attention in the right way or they wrap their self-image in it. There's a lot of problems with it.

Speaker 3:

Spiritually there's a lot of problems with it if you have problems with it. But, like I said with ice cream, if you don't have problems with ice cream, eat ice cream. But if you have problems within social media that it brings to you, then get off social media. So I don't think it's bad for you to be on social media. I don't think it's a sin for you to be on social media, but if social media has you and you don't have it, then you should be off of it.

Speaker 1:

I think another great example is just money right.

Speaker 3:

Money correct.

Speaker 1:

Another great example. It's like listen, money by itself isn't evil, but the Bible says the love of money is the root of all evil, right and love of social media is the root of yeah, yeah, root.

Speaker 3:

think there's dangers on social media, but there's danger with anything. So I think, you know, there's danger in walking outside, there's danger in watching a movie. There's danger in talking to a person you never met before. The only thing is with Instagram or with social media is danger is easier accessed, accessed.

Speaker 2:

Well, because here's the deal when I was growing up, we didn't have cell phones, let alone anything else, I mean, so we didn't have social media right, but we actually played outside yeah, yeah, right, there was a thing called outside, with the sun and the clouds right.

Speaker 1:

What is this outside? What is this outside you're talking about?

Speaker 2:

yeah right but now with your, your, your. What?

Speaker 4:

not a demographic, but your generation, generation, that was the word I was looking for yeah, um, you've got this instant access to the world yes, in your hands, at your fingertips, as your fingertips, in a matter of seconds.

Speaker 3:

That to me sounds dangerous. It is dangerous, but it comes down to the person who's using it. You know what I'm saying? Okay, so if you're, if you're, if you know you're not going to have a problem with security, lust, attention, entertainment, you know all of those things. If you don't have a problem with those things, right, go on social media Now with the same thought process, though I think it does come down to a balance, because you can kind of fall into a gray spot where, if you're on social media too much and you're just neutral, like you're not sinning, but you're also not using it for a purpose, then it's just like anything else. You don't want to do that for too long. You want to take it with balance, right, because you could be spending that time doing something more productive.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's interesting and actually I think that's really kind of a cool contrast. Somebody, that is all that. You know. John is social media, because that's what you grew up with and that's the way of life for you, and then Paul, for you, that was something that was introduced way later.

Speaker 2:

I was like in my early 40s when social media came along so so you've been asking some good questions.

Speaker 1:

So what, what are your takes on it like? What do you think?

Speaker 2:

I mean, here's the deal for me. It's you know I don't really get on it much, you. You know I don't post a lot. You don't really see me doing much on it. I use it more for business because I have to right. Right. But even then I don't get on it unless I need to look up something or check some artists and what they're doing and see what their pages look like, but for the most part I don't really get on it.

Speaker 2:

I don't think most people my age and higher. You know, like my mom, she does Facebook and she tries to do Instagram. But she's done nothing about TikTok or anything like that. She doesn't know anything about that.

Speaker 3:

Well, another good example too is like. I know people who have iPhones and then, through their iPhones, they build a porn addiction, so they get rid of their iPhones and get a flip phone. So it all comes down to what you can handle. Can you defeat temptations? Will you accept them and fall through with them? Because there's going to be temptations wherever you are.

Speaker 1:

So what, and that's a really great point. So what are some ways that you know for you if you could talk to young people, which we know nobody really listens to?

Speaker 4:

the show, but you know, but uh, you know for I'm really.

Speaker 1:

This isn't even just for young people, this is for anybody. You know, what? What are some ways that they can try to you know. Help overcome that, you know maybe they porn, or just addicted, being addicted to their phone, just in general, you know, just like wanting to be on social media all the time, right so?

Speaker 3:

with this kind of thing and more towards porn. I just had this conversation with someone last night actually. Oh nice, I was up till. That's why I was up so late is I was helping someone walk through. Hey, I've been struggling with this.

Speaker 4:

And.

Speaker 3:

I was like, okay, let's talk about it, let's pray, so with porn I'll get to. I guess I'll get to social media as a separate answer.

Speaker 4:

Sure.

Speaker 3:

Start with the practical, practical side is okay. Realize how you're accessing it and if there's a way to stop it and limit yourself or just completely get rid of that access Because for a season you're going to have to get rid of that so you can then we'll go to the spiritual in a second. Do that while you're limited from that. Right, right, right. So you need to realize what the access point is and eliminate that. If you keep eating sugar in the house. You get rid of sugar in the house.

Speaker 3:

Right right you don't just sit there and try and look at it and overcome not eating it.

Speaker 1:

Well, and that's statistically a thing where, if there's something in the house, you're so much more times likely to eat that thing, because it's available.

Speaker 3:

Correct. Number two is you need to find accountability. You need to find friends or older mentors that you trust, even your parents or family whatever. Find someone you trust, bring them into this, because the devil can only make this worse when it's hidden and when it's in the dark.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to let you keep going, but that was a really, really good point, because a lot of people think they have to fight it on their own, correct. Let's be real Men specifically, men specifically, let's be real Men specifically, Men specifically, and it let's. Let's be honest, it is really challenging to tell somebody else hey, I'm struggling with this, it is, and I mean that's, that's embarrassing and also it's like man, I, right now I'm just not strong enough. And that's hard for a guy to do.

Speaker 1:

And I mean even women too. Women struggle with it as well, so that's hard to do.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so yeah, go ahead, john, I'm sorry. Yeah, so accountability, finding that friend or friends, the more people you tell don't go around and be like man. I'm addicted to porn.

Speaker 1:

Speaking of social media yeah, don't do that Exactly, you don't want to take that too far and tell the whole world know that close people you trust let them know that.

Speaker 3:

Bring them into that accountability which you're accountability right. Ask people to pray over it, give you advice and, if anything, text them. You know, if you get an urge, you get a temptation, hit them up, call them. You know. If they're okay with that, check, check with them, they're okay first don't call them, don't call it. Yeah, exactly unless they're okay with that. Some people are okay with that if they're really close to you. Find the accountability. That's number two. And then number three is renew your mind to Scripture.

Speaker 3:

That really should be number one, yeah, right, right this is not even in the spiritual thing yet, because this is still a little bit of practical. You need to understand and remember and learn and meditate on scriptures dedicated towards purity Right, and you need to seek those through your accountability group, through your church, through the Word. You can ask, email, comment, text us whatever you know we can help you with those too. Find scriptures that'll really deal with purity and how to walk in the Spirit and not fulfill less of the flesh, Galatians something. But that's a verse that's really important. 516.

Speaker 1:

516. 516, that sounds right.

Speaker 3:

So find scriptures. Okay, so recap One get rid of the access you have to the temptations. Get accountability. Three memorize scripture towards the applicable category.

Speaker 1:

And the importance of speaking it too right.

Speaker 3:

Correct.

Speaker 1:

Every single day.

Speaker 3:

Yep, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, speak on a day and night, right, Don't let time go by and slack off on that. Like be as dedicated to speaking the Scripture as much as you are tempted to doing it and more. Does that make sense? And I think, yes, it does. Counterattack the temptation with the times you speak Scripture over yourself.

Speaker 1:

And the first day that you choose to do it is always the most challenging.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

I mean because, if you think about it, you developed a habit.

Speaker 3:

Right.

Speaker 1:

You developed a way of life really.

Speaker 4:

Correct.

Speaker 1:

And so you have to change. You've got to stop where you are, turn around and go the other way, right and so. I think it's really important to remember that. Hey, give yourself grace right. You can't expect to do it perfectly right from the get-go, but what you'll find is, you know, because one thing that we always talk about at church is, like you know, so many people are focused on what they have to stop doing, rather than what they need to keep doing and meaning like, hey, just keep speaking the word, just keep, you know, keep making the right decisions.

Speaker 1:

Guess what? Yeah, you're going to mess up, but here's what's going to happen. Like John said, that word is going to renew your mind and then you're going to start thinking differently. You're going to start having more biblical desires, right, and let's be honest, obviously God created that desire between a man and a woman in marriage, right?

Speaker 1:

Mm-hmm, sire between a man and a woman in marriage right. And so you know one thing man and woman, man and woman yes. But, you know what, honestly, I think it's really cool because when I started this conversation, you know, I just thought it was interesting, like just the balance of like you know how something is perceived on social media. But I think, you know, I think the Holy Spirit brought us to this part of the conversation because let's just be honest, this is a really hard struggle for all men.

Speaker 1:

All men have struggled with this at some point.

Speaker 2:

Let's be serious. We have no topic of what we're going to say when we start these shows either.

Speaker 3:

Right. So this is like all of them, and I just talked to somebody about last night Exactly.

Speaker 2:

This is all God-led. I mean, we didn't. This is nothing's planned.

Speaker 1:

No, like literally in my notes I had to bring up like the Christian thirst trap thing and that was it. We were just going to get our takes and kind of move on. But obviously the Holy Spirit led us to this.

Speaker 3:

Right.

Speaker 1:

And I think that's important.

Speaker 4:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

Obviously you know, because obviously we talked about this, our podcast being a Christian humor podcast, where our goal is to make you laugh, have a good time with us, but then also, too, to share some serious things. And I think it's really important to talk on a subject that, especially in Christian circles, is so taboo.

Speaker 3:

It's yeah, and it's hard for men to talk about it because it's a very vulnerable and delicate thing. It's sensitive. Yes, yeah, and it's you know, a man, our constant thing being a man is we want to be a man. Right we don't want to be a letdown, we don't want to be a failure. Right, we want to be a certain way, so we can lead a certain way, and when people find out something like this, it sucks. Yeah it sucks yeah you know, it breaks trust, it makes people look completely different.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so it's a hard topic, yeah, but it's good that we're talking about it.

Speaker 3:

Yeah and um, I don't know if you were complete with your thought no, yeah, I've done yeah when I actually was like, okay, god, I've tried the practical, it's helped, but the root cause is not fixed. And I could feel it like I still had lust, I would relapse, and I would relapse too often. And so I was like what is the problem here? I'm doing these steps, but the key was I needed to know the Lord and how much he loved me.

Speaker 3:

And so the Bible talks about. If you call upon the name of the Lord, you'll be saved, and that's for salvation, yes, but that's also how we spend time with the Lord. We call upon his name, and so if you're looking for the Lord, you'll be saved, and that's for salvation, yes, but that's also how we spend time with the Lord. We call upon His name, and so if you're looking for the Lord, you're seeking for the Lord and you're having a hard time doing it.

Speaker 3:

The way that I did it and the way that I would recommend you to do this. To make this mystical woo-hoo spend time in the Lord's presence thing become a real thing to you and actually know how to do that, you have to bring yourself to a place where you have no distractions and you have no opportunities to be distracted, and you, when you first do this, you need to not have any concept of like time, Like you can't have something on your schedule in 30 minutes. You can't have something in your schedule in three hours. Whatever it takes, you need to block off a set amount of time for the Lord to speak to you and for the Lord to reveal his face right, and so that's what I had to do.

Speaker 3:

I went away for like two, three hours, I think, and it didn't count. I just when I was out of it I was like, okay, that was two or three hours, whatever, excuse me, holy Spirit, burp Anyways. So I spent time with the Lord and I called upon his name. I was like God, if you're there, just let me encounter you for real, not a churchy way, not a fake way, not a shallow way. If I need to cry and be really uncomfortable and be really less of a man and let my guard down and just let you fill my spirit with your love, like, let's let that happen. And you don't have to pray certain things, you don't have to go of a routine, you don't have to be legalistic, you just have to be authentic and real to the Lord, because he's your friend, and that's the best way you'll communicate with any friend is being real and authentic and realistic. And so that's what I did with the Lord, and as soon as I called upon him, he came and he showed me his true character and his love.

Speaker 3:

That moment changed me from the inside out and that allowed me to really know. Okay, god, you're real. I just experienced your love one-on-one, nothing else, no distractions. It was amazing. I now know what the Lord's no distractions. It was amazing. I now know what the Lord's presence feels like. It's holy and it's just a feeling you can't explain right. And so I now knew what that was like. And now that I knew what that was like, I wanted to do that more. I wanted to spend intentional time with the Lord like that more, and the more you do that, the more. Let me example and sorry, I'm almost finished, but bishop, bishop, bishop, maynard jamal shout out um, only you know that that was funny so, so, um, what was I saying?

Speaker 3:

I totally forget what I was saying. Adhd homeschooled I'm homeschooled. What flight? Southwest, southwest, don't know, we don't know houston, we have a problem. What I say? What I totally forget what I was saying. Adhd homeschooled I'm homeschooled. What flight? Southwest, southwest, don't know, we don't know, houston, we have a problem. What did I say? What was I saying?

Speaker 2:

I couldn't tell you, I don't know, everything was so good I was.

Speaker 4:

I'll be honest. I stopped listening like 15 years ago chill uh, shoot.

Speaker 3:

What was I saying?

Speaker 1:

no, you're talking about just spending time with the Lord. You're talking about your presence, where you finally got it. You finally understood.

Speaker 3:

That's got to be the enemy.

Speaker 1:

I can't remember what I was saying, or just your brain.

Speaker 4:

Or just my brain.

Speaker 3:

What was I saying? Does anyone know what I was saying? That's so crazy.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I'm trying to.

Speaker 3:

I'm literally drawing a blank what I was saying.

Speaker 2:

That's so weird. Um, why is that? Let me just say this, though okay that you can think about it on the next podcast but this one has gone way too long. Yeah, how long are we? We're, we're long, we're really, we're really long, yeah, but let me just say, this is this was. Oh, I have it. I'm sorry, of course, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.

Speaker 3:

I gotta finish it out though okay, the person who's dealing with. It is like no, tell me. Okay, I'm about to tell you, Brandon, you good.

Speaker 4:

We're good, all right, here we go.

Speaker 3:

I'm gonna do this quickly, okay, okay so the more you spend time with the Lord, the more you draw near to him. If you're ever in a moment where you're with Jesus like that and let's say maybe you're, if you've never had Jesus like that, an experience like that, maybe you're around a pastor or you're in church nine times out of 10, and really for everyone it should be 10 times out of 10, you're not going to sin in that moment.

Speaker 1:

Right, true Right.

Speaker 3:

Because the presence is not going to influence you to actually give into those temptations. So the more you're with the Lord, the less you become like the world and the more you become like him. And the less you give into the temptations and the more you give into what the Father wants you to do. And so that's what I had to do to overcome lust, overcome porn, and with that I also used those practical steps. So that is my speech. Everyone, thank you for your time. I'm done.

Speaker 1:

That was good, john. That was really good, thank you. Thank you for sharing. I think there's a lot of very good things in there that we can all take away, and even people that don't struggle with it. There's still really good steps, just to continue to put your guard up right, practical steps to do other things Right absolutely.

Speaker 2:

things right, absolutely.

Speaker 1:

you can apply it in a few different ways well, that got a lot more serious than I thought this episode was so great I mean it's great we never anticipate these, yeah, I mean, yeah, so just being led by the holy spirit, yeah all right, john, let's turn the switch, buddy here we go.

Speaker 3:

Did we close out the last episode with this? Oh, we did, I just don't remember things. Thank you, mission media podcast.
